At Casa Conciencia, our commitment to sustainability drives us to seek innovative solutions that benefit both nature and communities. That's why we've launched a new initiative: we're giving biol to the farmers of Yautepec!
What is biol and why is it so special?
The biol is an organic fertiliser made from organic waste, such as manure and crop residues. In our particular case, we use vinasse, a by-product of the distillation of our mezcals. Vinasse is rich in essential plant nutrients such as potassium and other minerals, which makes it an ideal ingredient for biol.
Why do we give biol as a gift?
By giving away biol, we are fulfilling our commitment to care for the land and support our farmers. This initiative aligns perfectly with two of our core pillars:
▪From Mi Huella: Biol is a powerful tool to promote sustainable agriculture. By using this natural fertiliser, farmers reduce their dependence on chemicals and contribute to environmental conservation. In addition, biol improves soil quality, which in turn improves water retention and reduces erosion. By using the stillage, we are closing the production cycle and minimising waste.
▪From My Land: By supporting local farmers, we are strengthening our communities. Biol will enable them to grow better crops, increase their income and improve their quality of life. In addition, by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, we are contributing to the preservation of our ecosystems and food security in our regions.
What are the benefits of biol made from stillage?
▪Improves soil fertility: Biol provides essential nutrients for plant growth, such as potassium, phosphorus and other minerals present in stillage.
▪Increases yields: Plants fertilised with biol tend to be more vigorous and produce larger and tastier fruits.
Reduces the use of chemicals: Biol is a natural alternative to chemical fertilisers, which helps to reduce water and soil pollution.
▪Promotes the circular economy: By taking advantage of the vinazas, we are giving a new use to a by-product of mezcal production, closing the production cycle and reducing the environmental impact.
